It's always sad when a movie theater closes, but there's consolation when at least some preservation of the building's character
and its history is attempted.
The Waikiki Theater in Honolulu fits into that category. This was an Art Deco beauty that was demolished and replaced by a retail and restaurant complex, but much of the theater's original architectural detail has been incorporated into the new building. And there are plenty of mementos from its past - photos of the theater, movie posters, and newspaper clippings about the theater's opening.
